Dorothy Percival, Founder and Artistic Director of the San Joaquin Ballet, enjoys an international reputation as a director, choreographer and teacher of dance.
She is the immediate past president of the Pacific Regional Ballet Association and a past coordinator for the National Association of Regional Ballet.
Percival was asked to serve on the Evaluation Committee for the Regional International Dance Competition. She attended the 1975 competition in Varna, Bulgaria. She was an observer of the American delegation, led by Robert Joffrey, to the 1980 competition in Moscow. Recently, she returned to Russian to study.
She has choreographed productions for the Stockton Opera Association (for whom she also has directed), Stockton Civic Theatre and other area groups.
Percival has taught dance at University of the Pacific and still teaches privately, at Delta College, and as Director of Dance at Idyllwild, the University of Southern California summer arts camp near Palm Springs.
As a Stockton Arts Commissioner, she has organized the ethnic dance evenings at the Stockton Arts Festival, and she has played a prominent role in making dance the popular audience attraction it has become in Central California.
